[This is the last one due to heavy spoiler material in the final two interviews.]
What is your name? Does it mean anything special?
Hello there. My name is Harriet Medberry. It’s an uncomman name in this day and age but it suits me. I’d like to say it has a great esoteric meaning, but I’d be lying. It’s main appeal is that there aren’t very many Harriets here on Etol. At least, not yet.
Who are your parents? How have they treated you?
My parents are Jason and Ella Watson who currently live on Sulis. It has been some years since I spoke to them directly but we send letters occasionally.
Do you carry any resentments towards your family?
At my age I have many resentments but they don’t bear repeating outside the family. We are an insular type of folk. Our problems are just that, ours.
Where do you live? Do you like it there? Why, or why not?
I live and work in Lenten. I don’t like it very much but that’s where work has taken me so I just smile and wait out each long winter by hiding indoors as much as possible. In four years I’ll be eligible to transfer to one of the new clinics.
What level of education have you received? Do you possess special training or talents that you’d like to share?
I am a liscensed psychological clinician with fifteen years working experience under my belt. I also have extensive administrative training and twenty-five years of martial arts conditioning.
What kind of habits do you indulge in on a daily basis?
I chew alot of gum and drink too much coffee.
What makes you get out of bed in the morning?
Well, I have work to go to six days a week. If I don’t work I don’t get paid and that would be bad. I enjoy what I do so it’s really not a big deal to crawl out of bed each day.
How do you handle stress?
I play ping-pong.
Where do you hope to be in five years?
I hope to be somewhere warmer year round with a nice, fat grant to keep my work going.
Any last thoughts?
Hmm, I can’t think of anything I’d like to add. It was a pleasure.

How have things changed since our last meeting?
At the request of the EDF my office was merged into the newly formed Operators. We were sent immediately to Montblanc to establish new offices and facilities to meet their needs. Like everyone else in the project I was registered into the database.
Shortly after the Rotenstiegen formed I was approached by Mr. Wright and his son as psychological specialist to help them with a pair of juveniles in their care who were suffering from post traumatic stress syndrome. In this way I became part of the Rotenstiegen itself.
How have you handled these changes?
Lenten wasn’t affected directly in the first attack so my initial shock was more over how many died then personal loss. I was sick, physically ill, for several hours when the first reports came out. It seemed like the world was about to end, yet, it didn’t. When the dust settled no one quite knew what to do but we had to go on. That’s it, really. I just had to go on with my life.
What do you think of the Akutenshi? Have they impacted you directly?
The Akutenshi are fascinating creatures. They have impacted me directly in that I know work with Tenshi pilots in addition to becoming one myself. Violet, my Tenshi, says she chose her name because I like the smell of Violets. That always brings a smile to my face just thinking about it.
Do you belong to a Tenshi team? What is your opinion about all the fighting?
I am a member of the Rotenstiegen. The fighting between us and the Hylin does not worry me. That is easily addressed in our downtime. It is the infighting between the Rotenstiegen and the alliance that has me worried. It is the reason I was asked to join the Rotenstiegen by the EDF.
Unfortunately I cannot go into details here.
Governor Xao Lan believes that Etol is the last stronghold of humanity. Do you agree or disagree with that sentiment and what do you think should be done about it?
I ... I don’t know what to think about that assessment. Perhaps it’s best not to agree with it and hold out hope of rescue. On the other hand we don’t want the people to sit idly by waiting for saviors from the other planets so maybe we should at least pay lip service to the governor’s belief. If there is no hope of rescue I expect some citizens to sink into despair and apathy but that’s been a problem since the first attack.
It really depends heavily on how the war to defend Etol is faring. Fundamentally our soldiers have to believe they can win. If they let thoughts about how Sulis has fallen despite having such an advanced military system take root the uncertainty that creates could potentially cripple the EDF.
There have been many theories about why the Hylin invaded. Do you agree with any of them and why or why not?
Hmm, that’s a tough question. There have been papers published over the last fifty years trying to address the psychological nature of the Hylin but prior to the war the only sources of information were old records dating back to before the gate was shut down. There are those who decried humanity’s response to the aliens as savage and barbaric.
After what I’ve seen I’m no closer to discerning what motivation the aliens have. We’re still trying to piece together the basics of their language. Hopefully once we can begin listening meaningfully to their transmissions the dialogues found therein will provide clues to the great question of why.
It’s a bit like shaking an angry fist at the heavens screaming at God for an answer and trying to read a meaning in the clouds.
Do you hold out any hope that Earth has survived the war?
The odds are not in Earth’s favor after all these years. Before the Hylin invaded I had some small inkling of hope that maybe, just maybe, there were survivors. Now it is obvious how much of a fool I used to be by believing that. The Hylin have complete control of the gate on that side of the universe. If the population of Earth hasn’t been wiped out by now they are certainly crippled.
