As I said in my last entry I've entered the National Novel Writing Month contest to churn out 50,000 words between November 1st and the 30th.
As I said in my last entry I've entered the National Novel Writing Month contest to churn out 50,000 words between November 1st and the 30th.
Hopefully those 50,000 words will look suspiciously like a cohesive narrative when I'm done. I don't expect it to be a quality narrative. It's all about quantity. I've been prepping since early October when I heard about it on the Snopes board. Frankly I had no idea about this until then. Otherwise I would have entered in previous years.
I've been a wanna-be novelist since high school. It's time to actually put my proverbial money where my mouth is.
So I've got most of an outline with some gaps in the middle and towards the end. There are two protagonists each with different backgrounds but some similarities in their families. That wasn't intentional when I was coming up with quick notes but I'm loathe to change it now that I've noticed. I don't think it's really a problem per se it's just something of an oddity.
So when I first came up with my concept I was going to write pure nonsensical comedy with each chapter having little to do with any other save for the main characters and the overall setting. However I don't really jive with that style of writing. It's too disjoined for my tastes. So somehow over the last three weeks it's turned into a poke fun at Resident Evil and survival horror in general novel.
I don't have anything against survival horror. Actually it's one of my favorite types of games after strategy. This came about because of many speedruns I watched on YouTube. After playing through those games enough times you become used to the things they throw at you due to technical limitations. At that point it's time to point and laugh at the nonsensical things like why is a door locked with jewels or medals or some other series of objects that are themselves locked away behind puzzles. I fully understand the gameplay necessity in it - it's there to slow the player down and work more then their trigger finger. However if taken literally it's pretty damn funny.
...and yes the Kecmo point and click games will be mercilessly lampooned too. In fact I may just add a death scene section to the appendices just for the hell of it. None of them will be real deaths of course but that's part of what makes Shadowgate so much fun. There's a way to die in every room if you look hard enough.
Chaos Legion News:
I've uploaded most of the bitmaps ripped from the game's PC version mpeg movies to Photobucket. There are a few other assorted images culled from the internet and looking through the mountain of targas in the game files. If you want to use them go ahead. Just make sure to save them to your hard drive first and from there upload them to your own image hosting space. Alot of them have a thin black bar at the bottom. That's not an error in conversion thats just the way they got ripped and I was too lazy to remove it.
Linkage!
I've had all the movies from the game and some music up on YouTube for awhile now. If you are interested hop over here.
