Day 15 has arrived. This is the official halfway point of National Novel Writing Month. To be on target one must finish the day around the 25,000 word mark. Today however I am going for the 40,000 word badge. It's the last on the list before the validation trophy and that can't be acquired until the validator goes live on or around the 20th. Just like last year I want the 50,000 words to be ready when the validator goes live. Nothing like going on the forums over there and seeing some of the real marathon word counts to remind me that I'm not really writing all that fast!
Fortunately the week 2 blues didn't really hit this year. Instead it seems I'm facing the week 3 blues. A single day in the life of the characters is going on and on and on but stuff is happening and one of the main antagonists is finally going to (sort of) show up. It only took about 100,000 words total for that to happen! Heh, there hasn't even been a single mention yet. Instead there have been a couple oblique appearances by minions.
I did generate some more writing challenges via Seventh Sanctum as prompts to help decide where things are going. That's been helping. Last year I was trying to think of what to do with one character and spontaneously decided "Hey what if some of the city's gangs are using the chaos to strike one another?" Since then it's been the random gift that keeps on giving as it added the 6th and 7th perspective characters to the roster. Character 7's planning war right now.
