It's August 2nd and that puts us one month closer to NaNoWriMo '08. Only 91 days left until the frantic writing dash begins. It may seem like a far time off but now's the perfect opportunity to make holiday plans.
While going over my notes today for the novel I plan toglaciate pen this year I realized I really should stop thinking so hard about how giant living robots would actually work and focus more on the cool explodey things that are rather sparse right now. Because they asplode ... awesomely. I don't want things going over the top. There will be no Black Hole Guns or Sanger Sanvolt in my novel.
On another hand I have a bit of a quandry. While making the quick character list I jotted down a character whose primary function was to go down in a blazing Heroic Sacrifice primarily as an emotional sucker punch to the rest of the cast. However as I flesh out more of that character I find that I like them. They're funny and lighthearted while still getting down to the serious business at hand when necessary. This amongst a cast of characters chock full of lunatics, maniacs, sociopaths, butt monkeys, and people who meet pretty gruesome ends. If I remove all the lightheartedness I'm worried the story comes out feeling too much like Neon Genesis Evangelion which is what I'm working against. I'll settle for somewhere between Kill 'Em All and Disney Ending, thanks.
