I posted two videos to my YouTube account over the weekend that may seem way out of left field. They are:

Space Griffon VF-9 Intro [backstory sequences from leaving the game running on the title screen]
Space Griffon VF-9 Gameplay Demo [3 clips of moving around and fighting. This is from a ways into the game.]

There's very little information about Space Griffon on teh interwebs which is a damn shame. Don't get me wrong, it's not a great game by any means. It suffers from a stiff targeting system. It also has frame-rate problems when there's a lot of things in memory. Neither of those are horrible problems although targeting can get very frustrating as there is no lock-on.

Before there was Resident Evil, Space Griffon was already plying the survival horror waters. For reference Resident Evil was released in 1996 and Space Griffon in 1995. So, they shared some overlap in their development times and both have problems related to being early-generation Playstation games. Resident Evil resolved memory issues by having small areas and many loading times. Space Griffon has very large levels and streaming loading at the cost of a momentary pause here and there, limited textures, and limited draw distance.

Despite the limited textures the game keeps the different floors distinct and it isn't difficult to tell the enemies apart. The draw distance can be handwaved by poor lighting throughout the facilities and it is far enough to see enemies within attacking distance. On top of that enemies are 'visible' to the Griffon's sensors a long way out.

I haven't seen this game in over a decade and yet the memories of it are quite strong. I don't remember many details but the few remain strong. Having foreknowledge of the events to come I find a sense of dread comes over me as I slowly make my way there. This is not the least helped by remembering that the late game is downright evil in throwing waves of very tough enemies and little recovery items.

Anyway, I'm getting off track now. The real reason for this post, besides a little nostalgia, is that I'm working on an FAQ for this game. There is a conspicuous lack of FAQs and that is something I can correct. Hell, Knights of Justice has an FAQ. Even Demon of Laplace has an FAQ. So I will be busy doing that - assuming I can maintain focus. Yes, I know, I'm terrible about that. >.>

Because I'll have to play through the game again I'm suspending making new videos for Ogre Battle and Langrisser 2 for the immediate future. Ogre Battle in particular eats up alot of my time. I am well aware that NaNoWriMo '09 is steadily creeping up. If this project isn't completed by November 1st then it will have to wait until December.
