ladyabaxa: (chaos legion)
It's rather late as I post this so I will be brief.  We got a number of small gaming sessions in over the last week.  Here are the highlights!

Once every four years, during the Summer Olympics, there is another contest of skill going on that doesn't get reported in the news media.  This, of course, is a huge street fighting tournament featuring some of the best and brightest upcoming fighting teams as well as World Warrior matches.  This year because the Olympics are being hosted by China the fighting tournament starts in late September in China (the name of the city escapes me).  One team will be sent from Japan under the tutelage of Master Winkai of Bokai Temple.  To determine who would be worthy of this honor Master Winkai sponsored a tournament in his temple.

Of course the PCs get invited thanks to Joliene's fame.  Her father was an exalted boxer before his untimely death and she is quite wealthy off of royalties alone.  Amidst all of this she's also being hounded by Shadoloo to join their organization.  Rich?  Check!  Good fighter?  Check!  General asshole?  Check!  That means a posse of super Shadoloo warriors comes knocking on her door and nearly kills everyone.  This results in the death of the Triad sharpshooter assigned to protect her.  *sniffle* Poor Zinko died doing his duty*.

To make a long story a bit shorter we made it through the first day of battles in one piece.  Since none of us expected to last past our first match - we are a bunch of 16 and 17 year-olds in a tournament filled to the brim with professional fighters - we dubbed ourselves the Drunken Underdogs.  Our team had 8 members consisting of 6 fighters and 2 "staff." Four people fought for the team in each match and one person had to sub out each time.

The first match of the second day saw us fighting the head students of our rival schools in Tokyo.  When time was called for the match two members of each team were still standing.  On our side were Isaiah and Joliene.  On theirs was Zakuro (good with Hurricane Kicks) and a special forces guy whose name escapes me.  Master Winkai waved to the judges that the match would continue.  Zakuro was out of Chi having burned it all trying desperately to break out of our Sanbo fighter's Bear Hug.  The special forces guy was a bit winded but still strong.

Joliene was low on life and fell back on her reserve strategy of Guren-Ken and Displacement to evade and counter Zakuro.  Twice he attempted to Dragon Punch and twice she danced around him and hit him after he finished.  Isaiah would not be so lucky.

When a special forces guy crouches what is the logical assumption about what move he's doing?  Any idea?  If you're not sure think about Guile's moveset.  Now if you answered Flash Kick you would be right - the kick with the single largest damage bonus in the game.  It HURTS.  Oh yeah and Isaiah has a phobia of it so he froze like a deer in headlights while the guy railed him.  Thankfully when the guy attempted a second Flash Kick Isaiah succeeded a Willpower check to interrupt him and KOed Mr. Special Forces.

Our next match was against Team Shadoloo.  That wasn't their team name - it was Darkstalkers - but we'd already fought these guys to a standstill twice.  Unfortunately we ended up being disqualified despite defeating them honorably because their wrestler kept jumping back in the ring and our Sanbo guy finally jumped him outside the ring with a Siberian Bearcrusher.  Fighting outside the ring is not permitted in Bokai Temple on top of Mr. Sanbo attacking from behind.  It wasn't pretty as we were shoved out the door unceremoniously.

I, however, was quite pleased with the match.  One member of their team is named Sampson.  He's a boxer and the first time he fought my little ninja he K.O.ed her with a single Turn Punch (16 damage, ouchies!).  This time the only move he landed was another Turn Punch on the last turn and only did 11 damage to which my character responded with laughter.  Apparently he didn't eat his Wheaties that morning.  Not that it mattered.  That same turn he got frozen with an Ice Blast and shoved out of the ring.

Fortunately Master Winkai is a merciful old man and he has offered to train us as long as we don't screw up again.  We'll see how long that lasts.

* To demonstrate how Joliene is an asshole sometimes after the Shadoloo ambush at her junkyard she discovered her bodyguard Zinko in a pool of blood.  Megumi, the mystic leader of Kenpei, showed her Zinko's last moments and offered her a choice: Megumi could save Zinko or she could unlock Joliene's Hado.  Zinko's last memories showed him fighting members of the Triads who betrayed them for money and an uber ninja assassin sent by the Bradshaw family to assassinate Joliene.

By this point she was fuming.  This was right after Kenpei students had to drive off the Shadoloo posse because I was unconscious (see 16 damage Turn Punch above), she was low health, and the other student from our school with us had been pummeled and had his arm broken.  The whole time she was raging about where her Triad bodyguards had disappeared to.

So, in her anger, she exclaimed that, and I quote, "The Triads are fucking useless!" and opted to unlock her Hado.  It took about three minutes after she awoke from the shock the next day to regret her decision.  So now Joliene keeps Zinko's guns in her RV fully intending to kill the assassin with them.
