Here's the news from the wacky, wild world of Street Fighter.
Unfortunately for Mikhail the Triads running the prison where he and his friends ended up being sent (I'll get to that in a moment) didn't take kindly to a bunch of Russians and ended up killing all but Mikky and his mentor Emil. Emil was summoned to China by Mikhail along with some mafia enforcers to collect Dr. Miloska and take him back to Russia. The two of them only just barely made it out with their lives because Isaiah had a fight with his girlfriend Bren and she told him that if he wasn't happy with his life he needed to make changes. Isaiah thought about what she said and decided it was high time that he started living up to the legacy of his deceased Savate master. In order to uphold his honor Isaiah returned to the prison and fought one of the head Triad lieutenants.
So how did Mikhail end up in prison? I'm getting to that. It all goes back to a combination of the secret agents that have enlisted Mortimer and Isaiah and the Russian mob that has set up shop in Xian under the direction of Boris Rasputin. About mid-afternoon Saturday Morty, Isaiah, and their entourages where invited to tour the dojo of Fighters Unlimited: a rather unscrupulous group with Shadoloo ties who were interested in recruiting the pair as a doubles team. The only reason they agreed to the tour is because the man suspected of kidnapping Selene Thompson is a member of Fighters Unlimited.
After the tour, with Agent Stravoski given free reign to look about the place as Isaiah's personal assistant, Agent Friedman insisted to Mortimer that they return immediately to search the grounds. Mortimer refused. Agent Friedman was rather perturbed by this response and stormed off.
It wasn't long before the agent was found in Monica's room with a gun to the head of a Russian assassin who had just shot Monica in the chest. It was only through helping Lynessa use her mystical powers and the surgical wizadry of Dr. Miloska that she survived. Eventually the entire team was at the scene. Isaiah had just fought off a pair of assassins after Bren downstairs. Seeing the state Monica was in he rushed back downstairs to find any other would-be assassins in the hotel.
Jolienne caught up with him in the building's garage where Isaiah was fighting for his life against a Shadoloo contingent that included Sampson, Goliath, and the guy who looks kind of like DeeJay (I should know his name by now but I just can't remember it). Isaiah managed to knock out the little thugs by him but was himself K.O.ed by a very annoyed Goliath. Goliath was then in turn surprised by Curtis who had just entered the scene and reconnected with his Hado to deliver a devastating Storm Hammer to Goliath. Sampson was already unconscious by the time Jolienne arrived so she mopped up and helped drag Isaiah out of the mess.
When the police arrived they questioned everyone and due to the fact that the shooters the group did capture were Russian they arrested everyone who was Russian. That is how Mikhail ended up being dragged off to prison.
Meanwhile Marianne was in her own moral dilemma. Her father had ordered her to return to Japan because of the risk to the family if she were discovered. Her cousin Juan was in Xian posing as an affluent latino named Emilio Hernandez and he asked her to stay and join his group of Reconquistadors who were trying to lure their enemies into the open and planned to use Marianne as bait. The plan was that she would continue to fight pretending to be Wu Shu and anyone who recognized her true style and approached her about it would be eliminated. While all of this was being revealed and she was trying to make her decision Raphael Dominguez, the spanish ninja against whom Marianne had panicked back at Fei Long's tournament, was putting his own plans in motion to try and recruit her - not because of the aforementioned fight but because of doubles matches later in the tournament in which she fought with Hiroshi. He had approached her then and asked her about her style to which Marianne responded that she used a hodgepodge of several martial arts.
Mr. Dominguez requested a dinner date with Marianne on the night Monica was shot which she declined. Hiroshi then suggested that they invite him somewhere that way they could back her up if there was trouble. Suki, who had been brought into the conspiracy, planned a lunch date for the next day, and all three went about inviting most of the team to the restaurant.
Everything went alright despite Marianne nearly botching an etiquette test. Mr. Dominguez deliberately gave her a wine glass in the French style and she almost accepted it as a Spanish lady but was able to stop herself and only made herself look like a fool. She again pressed her cover story that she had studied a hodgepodge of different styles but now practiced Wu Shu. Mr. Dominguez replied that her talents were being wasted and that she should join him in a discrete school that didn't bearing mentioning by name in polite company. The two parted ways in tense company with Marianne only saying she would think about his offer.
Her decision about whether to stay or go back to Japan came to a head when she was questioned by the team following lunch. Still flustered by her conversation with Mr. Dominguez Marianne admitted she had been recalled which elicited angry responses from pretty much everyone. Jolienne immediately spread the word by phone to everyone who wasn't present at the questioning. Back at the hotel it was synched when Isaiah and Bren said they would go back to Japan with her and Hiroshi to ensure their safety. Marianne couldn't justify breaking up the team like that so she agreed to stay in China.
