In the fading light we caught up with the Reed sisters as they were waiting for a train to take them to Edington. Although the girls were polite and humored our questions the pressure to hurry cut our interview short. Maggy led the way, being the elder of the pair.
What is your name? Does it mean anything special?
Oh good evening ma’am. I am Margaret Reed, or as my friends like to call me Maggy. I doesn’t mean anything special I don’t think. Once I looked up Margaret in a name registry and they said it means ‘pearl.’ It used to be a common name but the cultural melting pot has pushed it into obscurity.
Who are your parents? How have they treated you?
My parents are Melissa and Stewart Reed who live and work in Redmonton by managing a hotel and beachside resort. They treat us pretty normally I suppose. They don’t abuse us if that’s what you’re asking.
Do you carry any resentments towards your family?
What’s there to resent? Our parents take care of us. * Maggy looks over at Tara * About the only thing we can really complain about is that Cousin Ellis lives so far away in Edington that we rarely get a chance to visit him. When we were little he used to babysit us. Then he got a new job and moved away.
Where do you live? Do you like it there? Why, or why not?
We live in Redmonton. That’s where the family business is after all. It’s a beautiful town and it’s still small enough not to be crowded. Each season brings a different crowd from around the continent and the other planets in the system. Let’s see, there’s fishing and boating during the spring and summer, the bike marathon every few years in the fall, and of course every winter snowboarders descend on the mountains not far from here.
What level of education have you received? Do you possess special training or talents that you’d like to share?
I’m in high school still. Another year and a half to go there. I wouldn’t say that I’ve got much in the way of special training. * Tara whispers something *
That doesn’t count. No one cares how quickly I can make a salad or peel potatoes.
What kind of habits do you indulge in on a daily basis?
Every morning I help Father in the hotel kitchen getting guests’ breakfasts ready. It’s a great way to start the day and get focused on what needs to be done. I really enjoy it.
What makes you get out of bed in the morning?
I don’t have much choice in the matter. Between my siblings, my parents, the household pets, and all the screaming and shouting every morning there’s no way anyone could sleep in unless they were deaf.
How do you handle stress?
I do Yoga.
Where do you hope to be in five years?
Oh I don’t know. I guess I’ll be around the resort helping out. I’m sure Mom and Dad would appreciate that.
Any last thoughts?
I could go on but there isn’t much time before we have to leave. It was nice talking to you ma’am.

During out stay at the Operator's headquarters we were granted permission to interview Maggy again separate from the other pilots under the EDF's employ. Before we began we had to run all the questions past her sister to make sure we didn't ask something that would cause a post-traumatic response. Unfortunately this interview was scheduled on the same day as the team meeting so during the lunch break mid-day the team and I had to hurry with our inquiries.
How have things changed since our last meeting?
I’m so tired. Things are confusing. There’s light and noise I don’t understand and voiced telling me things in languages I’ve never heard before. The medicines help but at night, when I’m all alone, the images creep into my head. Sometimes I can shut them out but other times they refuse to leave.
Tara stays with me during the worst periods. She, I’m sorry ma’am but I can’t talk about it right now.
How have you handled these changes?
I still do Yoga but sometimes I just don’t have the strength to go through the whole routine. When I get to go home I sit on the beach and listen to the waves. That always relaxes me. Mom and Dad give me strange looks but I don’t mean to hurt them.
What do you think of the Akutenshi? Have they impacted you directly?
Please, I don’t want to talk about the Akutenshi. Can we skip to the next question?
Do you belong to a Tenshi team? What is your opinion about all the fighting?
No, I do not belong to a team. Although I am registered with the Operators as a First Contact I’ve been put on a more or less permanent vacation. Tara hears things from Aaron about the war and although she tries not to worry me I can see it in her face that things aren’t good.
What have you heard about Lucias and the Rotenstiegen?
Mostly rumors told about the resort by visitors. Mom and Dad say all the Tenshi are monsters. Shuval isn’t a monster I know that and Jackal has his moments. Lucias, he’s a bad man and so are the dragons. I can’t stand the sound of his voice.
Governor Xao Lan believes that Etol is the last stronghold of humanity. Do you agree or disagree with that sentiment and what do you think should be done about it?
I, I don’t know. The governor knows more then I do about it all so I guess I have to agree with him.
There have been many theories about why the Hylin invaded. Do you agree with any of them and why or why not?
The Hylin are what they are. It’s just their nature to fight.
Do you hold out any hope that Earth has survived the war?
My hope is for Etol. Our world needs all the hope it can get.
