[Note: Demodar started going off script pretty soon so I just let it run wherever the conversation seemed logical to go modifying upcoming questions as necessary to prevent redundancy.]

An interview with Demodar Langlen was scheduled as part of continued monitoring following several fights he got into at school that resulted in his expulsion.  By court order we couldn't ask him anything directly relating to those incidents.

What is your name? Does it mean anything special?

Um, hi.  My name is Demodar.  Oh, you want my last name too?  Ok, my full name is Demodar Huxley Langlen.  I’m not real sure where my folks got Demodar.  The closest equivalent I ever found was Demos which is from some place called Greece.  Huxley has something to do with meadows and Langlen I think comes from the root word Lang which means top.  It could be a corruption of Langley which refers to a big meadow.

You seem quite educated in language.  Why is that?

I’m not really.  Uncle just likes to talk about the names of things all the time.

Any special skills that you’d like to share?  Perhaps your Uncle taught you something else besides names?

I’m not real book smart or anything.  Heck I’ve been kicked out of pretty much every school I’ve ever gone to.  I know a little this and that about farming though thanks to my uncle.

Who are your parents?  How have they treated you?

My biological parents?  Don’t know and don’t care.  I ended up on this planet as part of a rehabilitation program.  All I know is that I was born on Thray and my parents abandoned me for whatever reason.  That’s fine.  They don’t want me and I don’t need them.

What about your uncle?  Hasn’t he told you anything about your parents?

He’s not my “real” uncle as some people would say.  He’s the brother of the man who adopted me.  Neither my adoptive father nor Uncle know anything about my biological parents so there’s nothing to tell.

Do you carry any resentments towards your family?

I assume you don’t mean my biological family.  My adoptive father can be very strict with me and it frustrates me when he does that.  I’m doing the best I can to adapt.  He doesn’t need to raise his voice to get the point across.

Where do you live? Do you like it there? Why, or why not?

I live in the foothills outside of Hesea although I’ve spent most of the last five years in a town called Edington with my adoptive father.  Vince thought that I’d do better if I wasn’t around other people so much and sent me to Uncle’s.  At first I was mad but I really like it here now.  Here I was thinking living on a farm would suck but it’s actually pretty cool and I like the work.

What kind of habits do you indulge in on a daily basis?

I tend to fall asleep when I’m really bored.  To keep myself from getting that bored I carry around something to do all the time – pencils, stress balls, anything will do as long as it keeps my hands busy.

What makes you get out of bed in the morning?

These days it’s a rooster.  Back when I lived with Vince he made it a habit of dragging me out of bed, sometimes literally.

How do you handle stress?

I keep myself busy so I can’t think about what’s bothering me for too long.  That sounds really philosophical doesn’t it?  I’m not a wimp like that, I just follow the advice I was given by the doctors.

Where do you hope to be in five years?

If it’s alright with Uncle I’ll probably be here.

Any last thoughts?

This isn’t going in my permanent record is it?

  --------

After lunch and the chats with the Reed sisters we were brought back to meet the rest of the alliance team starting with the bear of a young man they call Demodar.

How have things changed since our last meeting?

Hesea was quiet and peaceful before the war.  For the most part it still is.  I know Vince isn’t happy that I’m in the military now but he still smiles and says that if this is what I want he’ll support me.

How have you handled these changes?

I take things one day at a time.  Malock never rushes me.  I guess we’re a lot alike in the regard eh?

* Demodar looks over at Asanaga * Despite what some may think it’s not wise to rush.  Hmm, what was I saying just then?

You said it’s not wise to rush.  What does that mean in this context?

Well, sometimes you need to think things through.  I might not be the brightest in this bunch but I know that much at least.  You rush into danger and you might get killed before backup catches up.

What do you think of the Akutenshi?  Have they impacted you directly?

I’ve been more surprised then anything.  Never in my wildest dreams would I have pictured being out in a field and suddenly have a huge creature tear itself from the earth.

Do you belong to a Tenshi team?  What is your opinion about all the fighting?

I am part of the alliance and I’m ready to fight to the death to protect those who believed and supported me when I needed it.  We can sort out questions of who’s right and who’s a douchebag after the war is won.

Governor Xao Lan believes that Etol is the last stronghold of humanity.  Do you agree or disagree with that sentiment and what do you think should be done about it?

My memories of Thray are a bit faded but I don’t recall them having much of a military.  I don’t think that planet has survived.  Sulis, hmm, that’s a tough call.  On one hand we have Beryon who knows the military might of Sulis and says no way whenever he’s asked if the planet has fallen and on the other there’s the problem of why they haven’t sent help our way if they’ve survived.

There have been many theories about why the Hylin invaded.  Do you agree with any of them and why or why not?

The only theory I give any credit to is the “they want our resources” one that’s been floating about this room.  Most of the other theories are just stupid.

Do you hold out any hope that Earth has survived the war?

No.

Care to elaborate?

Not really.
