It took a full day to pass complete all the security checks required just to speak with young Miss Bridge for a few hours but once the opportunity to interview the daughter of a legend arose it was too good to pass up.
What is your name? Does it mean anything special?
Hi, I’m Naomi, Naomi Bridge. The family name is kinda weird ‘cause we don’t build bridges or anything but it gets the job done I suppose. Naomi means, hmm, let me think for a minute. Ok, I give up, what does it mean.
Pleasant
Wha? That’s it.
Who are your parents? How have they treated you?
My father is General Adam Bridge. I never knew my mother but I’ve heard she was a nice young lady. My dad isn’t around most of the time. He’s important and all that so I spend most of my days with family friends and the hired help.
Do you carry any resentments towards your family?
I wish dad could see me more often but I don’t resent that he has to do his job.
Where do you live? Do you like it there? Why, or why not?
I live in Port West as that is where my father is stationed. It’s a nice little town but I prefer the bigger cities myself. After dark there’s not much to do here.
What level of education have you received? Do you possess special training or talents that you’d like to share?
I’ve had all private tutors – for security reasons. You understand right? They can’t put me in a public school because of the danger that I could be kidnapped. That would be bad.
As far as special talents, well, I guess I’m pretty good with a computer. Given enough time I can figure just about any program out well enough to use it.
What kind of habits do you indulge in on a daily basis?
I listen to too much gossip. Does that make me a bad person? No, phew, ok, I wasn’t sure if I should be worried.
What makes you get out of bed in the morning?
There are days I have to be dragged out of bed. When it’s all gloomy and dark because a sea squall has rolled in, ahh, those are the perfect days to sleep in and ignore the world.
How do you handle stress?
I’m pretty hardassed about not giving up, actually, the madder I get the more determined I become to find an answer.
Where do you hope to be in five years?
I suppose I’ll be in the military. There’s no shortage of need there.
Any last thoughts?
Umm, why are we doing this? Oh yeah, you’re part of the Census Bureau.

After a silence of six months Miss Bridge was present with her team and we could put the following questions to her.
How have things changed since our last meeting?
Life is definitely more hectic these days, that’s for sure. I get to see parts of Etol I would never have dreamed of but at the same time it’s hard to take in the view when you’re constantly on alert for an ambush. I guess I don’t have much of a right to complain, though. All the soldiers that have died defending our planet went through much worse.
How have you handled these changes?
One day at a time.
What do you think of the Akutenshi? Have they impacted you directly?
The Tenshi? Oh my goodness where to begin with the Tenshi. I suppose I should start with the CAART Initiative. Weird name for a program, eh, CAART? It’s an acronym but they could have picked something that sounds a bit more serious.
Anyway, I’m getting off track. As part of the CAART Initiative all military personnel and their families were registered in this big database. Then a bunch of scientists pored over the database – I’m not clear on the qualifications they were looking for exactly – and started calling people in for further testing.
After a couple months of back and forth my father suddenly came home one night with a group of people I’d never seen before and Lucias. He was the one who actually convinced me to go ahead and join the Rotenstiegen. I don’t regret my decision. It keeps me close to him.
Do you belong to a Tenshi team? What is your opinion about all the fighting?
Fighting terrifies me. I thought it would be easier then it turned out to be. I was recruited into the Rotenstiegen at CAART’s insistence and although Lucias tries to make me feel at home sometimes I worry that my own teammates are the ones I should be worried about.
I guess, though, that as long as Ms. Medberry is here things will be alright. She knows how to keep people in line.
Governor Xao Lan believes that Etol is the last stronghold of humanity. Do you agree or disagree with that sentiment and what do you think should be done about it?
The consensus of the Rotenstiegen is that the governor is correct in his assessment. I cannot comment further on the issue.
There have been many theories about why the Hylin invaded. Do you agree with any of them and why or why not?
I try not to think about the reasons. It’s better that way.
Do you hold out any hope that Earth has survived the war?
Earth? Isn’t that the homeworld on the other side of the galaxy? I suppose there’s a tiny chance it’s survived but I wouldn’t bet on it.
