Well I finished up my dragon run tonight. What follows concerns the endgame for Battle Realms. Don't read if you don't want part of the story spoiled.

My plan to skirt most of the lotus defenses worked. By sticking to the northernmost strip of land you can bypass the third island completely. Zymeth is at the northern end of the fourth so after pulverizing the many towers in my way it was just a matter of getting his attention and pulling him out of his base so everyone could gang up on him.

Then all hell broke loose, as expected. When Zymeth dies a cutscene plays showing the Nightvol and the hordelings. Kenji then goes into his super mode. When this happens the Kenji you get after the cutscene is actually a superior version so having respawned he's been moved across the map and is no longer grouped. The cutscene also resets every unit in your army to wait status which is annoying because you're immediately beset by hordelings and all of your geisha have to be rethered. You also have to run Kenji back to his unit and regroup him.

Between the large number of rapidly respawning hordelings and the remaining lotus troops my main squad wiped. Kenji survived thanks to his permanent attack boost when the Nightvol respawns and forcing him to sit on his ass until he healed back to full health (this is how you know it's actually a new Kenji, the one you start the map with has the usual 75% regen cap but the super one can regen up to 100%).

Once enough hordelings died for the Nightvol to appear the Lotus did the bulk of the work wearing him down. I pulled all of my troops back and sent out Arah to scout. When I finally found him he had gutted out a big chunk of a lotus encampment, all of his hordeling escorts were dead, and he was down to about 20% health. Three shots from Arah and it was game over for the horde.

Now I'm pretty sure the lotus can't kill the Nightvol on their own. That would be anticlimatic yes? The thing is they can kill him if you help them. There is a cap to how low they can drop his health. If you've played Dynasty Warriors this same principle applies to the final boss of any stage. The computer can get them down to a sliver of life but will never kill them. Battle Realms has an oopsies with it's code however. If the player damages the Nightvol past the limit the computer can finish him off.

Here is a save file from that battle. Save the file to your hard drive, unzip, and put it in your Battle Realms folder 'Saved Games'. When you go to load a game a save file named 'inbattle' should appear in the list. When it loads Arah will be shooting at a critically injured Nightvol. To make her stop quickly hit 4, her group number, then O to set her to passive.

Here is a saved game from the beginning of the stage for comparison.
