Early this morning I finished off the wolf and claimed victory. The scripting for that battle has issues. It was a bit of a yawn so I put the game back on hard.

In the last battle against the lotus you have a 50 man cap and the lotus have four distinct camps and a ton of towers. They can also deploy Issyl, Koril, and Soban against you. Ok, so Soban is a laugh but it means you have to be careful in the main camp not to have his golems blow up near your troops. The point is the lotus only hold back Zymeth and that's for story reasons.

Contrast that with the wolf. Again, there are four distinct camps one of which you wipe very early and take over. There are fewer towers on this stage, fewer even then the one before it. After destroying the two remaining satellite bases (one I realized later was only 99% destroyed, missed a peasant hut) I walked a ninja around the last plateau and found out it wasn't active yet. Only when the ninja walked up to the third level and triggered Grayback's cutscene did they get a move on.

If I had been careful I could have sent an attack squad to tear down the base towers and the training facilities on the second teir unopposed and left the wolf crippled. They have a keep on the third level and started summoning Longtooth and Ghaila as soon as the camp activated. I pulled all my troops back to base and waited for Grayback. Once he arrived it was an easy kill and hordelings started appearing.

Kenji was across the map in wolf territory and quickly killed. Meh, that's what the keep is for. I was more annoyed with everyone in my army being pulled off guard and stand ground resulting in a rush to attack the advancing hordelings without fan geisha in tow. Between the hordelings and the wolf squads I think maybe one soldier died not including scouts. I went through alot of scouts.

Ninja get the nerf hammer when hordelings appear. Everything can suddenly see them, except the Nightvol, and the wolf will pursue spotted units until killed. I know it wasn't a matter of monks just seeing them. Before the horde appeared I had a ninja keeping tabs on the wolf gathering point at the base of the plateau. A monk walked down to join them and started chasing my ninja but I ran away and he dropped aggro. If the monk had hit him he would have been dead in the blink of an eye.

So I kill hordelings until they stop appearing. There's no cutscene showing the Nightvol has spawned so I have no idea if he has, or where he is. Doing the only thing I can I send out scouts and after a half hour of running around dodging wolf troops and losing scouts I finally find the big lug parked by a wolf peasant hut. There are a lot of peasants milling about and he's not attacking any of them.

Uh oh, looks like someone put the Nightvol on the wrong faction. I presume the hordelings are kill on sight to the wolf . They are to the lotus. Here's a screenshot of his stupidity. Just click the thumbnail to view an 800 x 600 picture. Green on the minimap is the wolf, red is the player.

Despite this setback I did complete the game.  Here you can download a zip of three save files from the last map.  Unpack and place in your saved games folder.  The primary file is at the beginning and the battle one is just before engaging the last boss.  Loading the Nightvol being dumb save will have a ninja invisibly parked like in my screenshot.
