Six parts in and I've finally gotten to comments on the new layout page. For the history of this series see this post as it also serves as important framing for what I'm about to launch into.

I've already touched on how comments get broken up and disjoined thanks to the Uploader Comments section you see in this screenshot. There is also a Highest Rated Comments section for videos where it is applicable and it does the same thing - break up the front page comments into difficult-to-follow blocks. Video Responses have also been display nerfed. Only one can be listed on the video page now and all others must be viewed via the 'see all' link. This also results in wasted blank space for the module.

There are no longer any comment options like filtering based on thumb rating. The 'Block User' option now sits on the same line as the user name and both are the same color and roughly the same font size. It is far too easy to accidentally click block with the way they now blend together visually. Reply, Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down, Flag for Spam, and Delete only pop up on mouseover - the last only appearing if on one's own comments or on one's own videos.

The screenshot above says it all. Not only is the related videos module distracting if you're in 360P player mode but if there are few comments but a full list of related videos the page has a large white space under the video.

Replying to a comment opens the following box and adds the @username automatically.

The format in which replies are listed depends on whether or not they are replies by the uploader and if they appear in the Uploader Comments section on the main page as the following example demonstrates.

Otherwise no indentation is added to the comments and it becomes difficult to follow conversations - especially with older comments that don't have the @username tag on the front. The following screenshot demonstrates how confusing this becomes.

It used to be that uploader comments were highlighted with a goldish background. Now the only thing making uploader comments stand out is some bolding of their name. The following is that it looks like if viewing one's own comments (as replies no less!) and although marginally less confusing in this format it is only because the comments happen to fall into chronological order.

Of course this wouldn't be complete if I didn't include a screenshot showing only comments and replies with the new @ tag so here we go.

Confusing? Oh yes!

That about sums up all the problems I'm currently aware of with the video page. If more turn up I'll add to the growing list of posts.
