Rather than splitting my time between Beyond the Beyond and Dark Wizard I'm focusing on Dark Wizard for now. Gathering enemy stats for the many different possible battles was always laborious and is demanding even more attention. In a bit of good news I have the majority of the game's text dumped. (I never realized how many towns there are in this game but it is a lot!)

So why is what I'm doing so laborious? Well, as the screenshot of the map viewer helps me demonstrate it means I have to keep multiple branching save files so I can do things like circle around Aqua's territory and then push into those islands to drive him north.

As an example of how this is risky here's what Aracna gets as his personal guard if attacked in Insenior when he holds Norma castle. Instead of a warlock (or group of warlocks like he gets in Silka) he's suddenly got a necromancer! A necromancer wearing an Angel Robe who knows Cataclysm, one of the most damaging spells in the game. OUCH! (Fun fact: Krystal can be 1-rounded by Cataclysm from full health even when she's got some levels on her. That's not the sort of thing you want to learn after an hour or more of intensive fighting!)
That would be quite a shock to a player new to the game. Of course to get Aracna set up like this I had to deliberately cut myself off from Quentin so this particular game was already doomed.

On a related note while harvesting some savestates to gather warlord stats I managed up fill up the castle list. This is a list of castle's threatened by the Demon Army. Unfortunatelythe list goes up to 5 but the game only has memory allotted for a maximum of 3 garrisons so no matter how many castles will be lost. EDIT: Naturally, of course, while gathering more Aqua savestates I managed to work myself into a position where I had six castles threatened and found out that menu can scroll. I continue to be pleasantly surprised by how robust this game is. It seems like quite a lot of thought went into figuring out all the different things the player could possibly do and account for them.
Eh, Sundrek is in the middle of the desert anyway and is only connected to the castle threatening it so losing it is of no concern.

On a final note, no the game's localization team apparently could not decide whether it should be Beast Talk or Beast Voice. Beast Voice seems to have largely won but the spell's name as a command is still Beast Talk.

Finally I was doing some messing around and testing the AI summons tables. I wanted to know if it was possible for the AI to summon a peasant and yes it can! However after some additional testing it seems the game isn't programmed to handle class changes for peasants - probably because there's a choice of three classes and having the AI make good class choices would be tough. Peasants under AI control just continue to level up.
