Beyond the Beyond: Update 102: The Maw (The Abyss pt. 2)

The gate to the Abyss is open and the locked treasures scattered across the world have been claimed. I'd say it's time to head down into the Abyss. The team's run out of means of stalling the inevitable. Oh well.

Beyond the Beyond: Update 101: Something Lost, Something Forgotten (Loose Ends pt. 4)

When last we saw the team they had just unlocked and opened the Abyss's front door. Thanks to some hijinks though they aren't in a state to go Abyss diving. That's just as well. There's a little something to tie up first.

Beyond the Beyond: Update 100: The Abyssal Gate (The Abyss)

Last time on "these kids are always getting turned around" the team had to retrieve the last of Arawn's tablets because they need it to open the supposedly only door to the Abyss. Why they can't take the Vicious One Express Elevator is anyone's guess. There was a bit of trouble but that's all behind the team. Now they can get to opening that door!

Beyond the Beyond: Update 99: The Final Tablet (Tablet Shrines pt. 2)

With the shrine actually located the team finds out that the gate to the Abyss, which is inside the shrine, is locked and they don't have the key. Now I could have gone and fetched said key before ever setting foot in Quamdar but this way I get to grind some experience on the new guy. He needs it!

Beyond the Beyond: Update 98: Tourism is Dead Here (Road to the Gate)

When last we saw our heroes (?) they had begun working through a list of last-minute preparations for the endgame. Today there's more work to be done on that front and a new party member to drag around while doing it!

While the start date for summer hasn't yet come in the US as I write this the heat has certainly arrived and with it all the "joys" of it being broiling outside.

But enough about that. I long put off getting caught up on Civ4 AI Survivor season 3 because the matches run for so long and Twitch is often a pain in the rear for me to access. That has been rectified which is part of the reason I got nothing done on Beyond the Beyond update 113 (#worthit!). For anyone who has seen season 1 or 2 but like me put off season 3 well let me just say many interesting things happened: Troll Kon is back with a vengeance, Justinian Trudeau wields the maple sword of justice, and De Gaulle actually managed to do something competent.

That said I'm just enjoying what I can of the season and progress in updating Beyond the Beyond will be slow. There's no reason to hurry anyway. It's all bonus content from here on out. I've got other stuff to tend to.

Progress has been slow and steady. It's something that got split off from Update 109 because it got so long and time intensive. I thought I should give a heads up that it won't be ready by this Sunday, April 22nd. It's not even at the proofreading stage yet.

That's just the way things roll sometimes. It will be done when it's done.

As far as starting a new LP I have given it some thought but there are some loose ends that I really should dedicate some time to finishing up. I haven't made any concrete decisions just yet though. At the moment Beyond the Beyond still has my full attention and that isn't going to change in the immediate future.

So again here I sit on the third day of February and it's in the low 40s (Fahrenheit - 5 degrees Centigrade for those accustomed to that system). That's pretty warm for February where I live. Tomorrow the forecast calls for snow then it'll possibly get above freezing on Monday just so the temperatures can plunge back to the teens on Tuesday for more snow.

Oh and California is back to continuing that drought they were having.

But rest assured that there's no climate change and pumping more money into our fossil fuel overlords (while doing everything possible to destroy other means of energy production) will totally have no harmful ramifications!

Yes, I am starting 2018 on a bitter, sarcastic note.

So where I'm sitting we're about to exit a cold snap (a.k.a. normal weather for winter) and become abnormally warm with temperatures more fitting for early spring. Mmmm, isn't climate change fun? That's a rhetorical question, of course.

In other news work on Beyond the Beyond's epilogue is coming along slowly. I'm not in any great rush since the story as presented in game is complete.

With Beyond the Beyond wrapping up I keep asking myself that question and getting nowhere. I'd prefer a game I've already played several times before. It has to be something I can play on my tablet.

With the passing of October that means we've again arrived at November 1st and one of my favorite times of the year: National Novel Writing Month. When I woke up this morning I was still going "what the hell am I going to do for this year?" but I suppose there's no time like the present to just spin the wheel and figure out which project that I've let languish gets attention this month.

I kid. I could spin the wheel but there's one in particular that cries out. If I'm quiet for the rest of the month just know that I've probably been abducted by plot monkeys.

EDIT: Now that it's November 15th and thus the halfway mark of November I must say this year's marathon is going better than expected. My word count per day might be less than last year but I'm well ahead of par. Of course the real test will come when I try to take the mess I'm spinning and whack it into something usable.

Major Update as of 12/23/2019: For some reason the last few images for update 114 weren't in the folder as they should have been. That's been fixed! Also, update 115 is now available.

Major Update as of 10/7/2019: Well Photobucket is up to some new shenanigans in that every image hosted with them is appearing in my entries here but blurred to the point of uselessness. The repository has recently been updated but I see no point on posting new updates for the LP on the blog.

Major Update as of 8/1/2018: Images are displaying again and have been for long enough to make me think resuming posting to the blog might be worthwhile so this is now a repository for links to the GDrive folder. Updates will still be uploaded there with edits to this post to relay when they're available.

Well first off I hope those who have been in summer the last few months have been able to wrestle some enjoyment out of it. Personally I'm glad to be seeing the tail end even though autumn means hay fever season. I've been waiting for things to calm down and stabilize before resuming Beyond the Beyond (I'd be done with the game most likely if I hadn't stopped). I am tentatively shooting for September 3rd to post the next update.

Yes I know NaNoWriMo is coming up fast but there's not much game left and maaaaybe I can finish it before November. If not I will try to continue through NaNoWriMo.

No, I have no idea what I might do after Beyond the Beyond.

Beyond the Beyond: Update 97: Final Village (Quamdar)

In our last episode the team ran across an old face and finally located the exit to the Sand Cave. I suppose they should find out what lies beyond it. Word of warning though: not much happens with the plot in this episode. This and the next episode are something of a breather where a whole lot of work getting the team ready for the end of the game has to happen.

Beyond the Beyond: Update 96: Ramue Strikes Back (Sand Cave pt. 3)

So the team's still struggling to find an exit from the Sand Cave. Well, okay, Finn could just cast Escape to take them to the exit they used to enter the caverns but that would be going backwards... again. Eventually the team has to go forward. Otherwise they'll never reach new sights and new events.

So I deleted the various individual posts for Ivory 9 - a NaNoWriMo project from several years back. I did that because I actually continued it the following NaNoWriMo and posting updates isn't really feasible with format I had chosen. I had made a lot more work for myself then was truly needed. That said I'm going to link to the Work In Progress as-is. Keep in mind it isn't finished. I haven't worked on it in over a year.

Yeah, kinda terrible about that.

In other news here's last year's NaNoWriMo project. It's a bit of lengthy fan fiction based the character of Ace Harding from the games Deja Vu and Deja Vu II. It's also incomplete. (Still terrible about that!)

Enjoy!

Beyond the Beyond: Update 95: Trudging Onward (Sand Cave pt. 2)

So the team's last foray into the Sand Cave was, technically speaking, a success. They fought monsters, claimed treasure, and managed to live to tell the tale. This time they have to return to that gloomy trek and hopefully reach the other side.

So I decided to go ahead and import my blog from LiveJournal over to Dreamwidth. I do a lot of internal linking so apologies if you're reading a series of posts and clicking a link shunts you over to LiveJournal. Or if video embeds are messed up. Or just general wonkiness. It will take time to get sorted out.

EDIT 1: Things are going slowly. I did get the Beyond the Beyond intro stickied and the links for act 1 in the ToC have been updated. Individual posts have been slow because I can't just edit the internal links. I also have to contend with the way the imported HTML is treated by the editor. Disabling auto formatting just means I have different problems, not that I avoid them entirely.

I went ahead and deleted all of the Ivory 9 entries. Those just aren't tenable for updating. There are better ways to handle that stuff.

EDIT 2: I got the Let's Challenge round-up post updated as well as all of the Rune solo write-ups. The video embeds for Rune should be working now. I had one issue with the CUT tag causing the tables in parts 4 and 4.5 to freak out when the entries are not viewed as single posts. Therefor I deleted those tags and the tables are no longer hidden behind a Read More link. I do that to save page space when viewing multiple entries and to save bandwidth. They're small posts anyway. it's all the coding for the tables that eats up the character limit.

As for Beyond the Beyond I've edited the links through act 2 in the table of contents and made it through update 20 in editing the posts themselves.

EDIT 3: Beyond the Beyond's ToC is up to date through act 3 and the posts themselves up to update 28. The Phantasy Star 4 solo challenge posts have all been updated. Video embeds should all work now.

EDIT 4: Beyond the Beyond's ToC is complete and I've edited posts all the way through update 64.

EDIT 5: editing Beyond the Beyond entries to update links (and fix errant typos) is now complete. I also forgot to mention in an earlier edit that the links in the Dark Wizard resources post have been updated. There might be some things scattered around the blog that don't work as they should but that's all the major projects.
